A Psaltery Christmas

25 Carols for the Bowed Psaltery

About

A PSALTERY CHRISTMAS contains a collection of well known songs as well as some beautiful old carols. I decided to keep my choices of music for this book religious rather than secular. There is no Santa Claus and there are no reindeer here, just the essence of a traditional Christmas. The songs are chosen for their beauty and because they go well on the psaltery.

The music is arranged for psaltery, and voice, and many of the tunes are scored as duets. There is a companion volume, 20 more Christmas carols that include more of the popular tunes.

Includes: Angels We Have Heard on High, Away in a Manger, Bring a Torch, The Carol of the Birds, The Cherry Tree Carol, Coventry Carol, Cradle Song, Ding Dong, Merrily on High, First Noel, The Friendly Beasts, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, Golden Carol, Good King Wenceslas, Hark the Herald Angels Sing, I Saw Three Ships, In Dulci Jubilo, In the Bleak Midwinter, It Came Upon a Midnight Clear, O Holy Night, Sing we Now of Christmas, Still, Still, Still, We Three Kings, What Child is This?, Whereas the Rose of Jericho, While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks.

Praise for this book

Lovely book for the bowed psaltery. All of the songs were chosen with the desire by the author to "capture the essence of traditional Christmas." There is a section of "Notes" telling the story/history/lore/and personal thoughts and memories of each song. Each piece is presented with the main melody and a duet counter part (as opposed to merely a harmony part). A book I know I am going to love and refer to often.
